The Union Public Service Commission has released the UPSC ESE 2027 notification for the Engineering Services Examination, inviting applications for approximately 480 Group ‘A’ and Group ‘B’ engineering posts across Civil, Mechanical, Electrical and Electronics & Telecommunication Engineering disciplines. These posts are spread across services such as Central Engineering Service, Indian Railway Management Service, Central Water Engineering Service and Indian Telecommunication Service.
Under UPSC ESE 2027, eligible candidates must hold a recognised engineering degree and fall within the 21 to 30 years age bracket as on 1 January 2027. The examination follows a three-stage format — Preliminary, Main and Personality Test — spread across the coming year, so candidates should register early and begin their preparation without delay.
Engineering degree from an Indian university/deemed university, or Sections A & B of the Institution of Engineers (India) examinations, or a recognised foreign engineering degree/diploma.
Degrees from the Institution of Electronics & Telecommunication Engineers and the Aeronautical Society of India obtained after 31 May 2013 are not admissible.
Age Limit: 21 to 30 years as on 1 January 2027, with relaxation of 5 years for SC/ST, 3 years for OBC, 3–5 years for defence personnel/ex-servicemen, 10 years for PwBD, and up to 35 years for eligible government servants.

Stage-I – Preliminary Examination: Objective papers of 500 marks (General Studies & Engineering Aptitude, plus a discipline-specific paper), with 1/3 mark negative marking.
Stage-II – Main Examination: Conventional papers of 600 marks in the chosen discipline.
Stage-III – Personality Test: 200 marks, no minimum qualifying marks.
Final merit is based on the aggregate of all three stages, with allotment by rank and service preference.
