Papers and Subjects
Paper-I (Secondary level) covers 16 subjects including Hindi, English, Mathematics, Science, and Social Science, plus a separate Special School Teacher (Divyang/Special Education) category. Paper-II (Higher Secondary level) covers 29 subjects spanning languages, sciences, humanities, Commerce, and Computer Science. Candidates may apply for either paper or both, subject to eligibility.
Eligibility
Paper-I requires Graduation with at least 50% marks in the relevant subject, plus a B.Ed. from an NCTE-recognized institution (relaxed norms apply in some cases). Paper-II requires Post-graduation with at least 50% marks in the relevant subject, plus a B.Ed. from an NCTE-recognized institution. Separate qualification norms apply for Physical Education, Music, Fine Arts, Dance, and Special School Teacher categories.
Age Limit
Minimum 21 years as on 1 August 2026. Maximum age ranges from 37 years (Unreserved Male) to 42 years (SC/ST), with further relaxation of 10 years for Divyang candidates and service period plus 3 years for ex-servicemen.
Exam Fee
General/EWS/BC/EBC: ₹960 (one paper) or ₹1,440 (both papers)
SC/ST/Divyang: ₹760 (one paper) or ₹1,140 (both papers)
Exam Pattern & Qualifying Marks
150 marks total (100 for Specific Subject Content, 50 for Teaching Aptitude), 2 hours 30 minutes, objective/MCQ format, no negative marking. Qualifying marks range from 40% (SC/ST/Divyang/Women) to 50% (General). Notably, the STET 2026 qualifying certificate carries lifetime validity, per a Departmental Order dated 22 June 2021.

Can I apply for both Paper-I and Paper-II?
Yes, subject to meeting the eligibility criteria for each paper separately.
Since candidates domiciled outside Bihar are treated as General category regardless of their actual caste category, factor in the correct fee and qualifying marks applicable to you before completing your application.
